Training - But Not the Running Kind

Sorry, but I've been out of town alot - busy with training for the new job lately.

Here's the Trisha update:

I did hook up with a couple of local runners to do my pavement pounding with on Saturdays. It sure makes the long run go quicker!!!

I didn't get to run with the Nerds a couple of weeks ago, because it was raining like crazy and I didn't want that to be my first dirty trail run. I'm a wimp.

Topher has got me interested in the possibility of getting a treadmill for this winter.

My Garmin has been working flawlessly and it has helped inspire me to run more.

That's enough for now.

Non-Running Workout Day

No running today. I started the day with a 90 minute workout at the gym that I just joined.

Ooh. I may be sore tomorrow. It's been a while since I lifted weights or did resistance training. The last 40 minutes on the stationary bike felt good, though. Getting that burn the last 5 minutes makes me feel like I've actually done something productive.

Next Tuesday, I might run on a group trail run with the Nerds. Uh huh, a scary trail that isn't paved. I'm not quite ready for running at night on those trails, though! **The Nerds run at night with lights on their heads.**

So I think I'll go early and run with The Chief Nerd. I contacted him after finding out that some of the runners run earlier than the scheduled run. He was very helpful with some suggestions for trail shoes and very patient with my rookie and probably very stupid questions. I can't wait to meet him and some of the other Nerds!

My work and travel schedule sucks so badly right now, that I think I might be running alone on the weekends for a while. So I'm just going to have to work at finding time to attend any group runs.

One thing nice about being a runner, though. When work sends me out of town, all that I need for a workout is a pair of running shoes and a little time.

I Like My New Town

The past two weekends, I've gotten out and about the Kansas City area somewhat. It was the first time I got to actually spend time checking the area out since moving here a month ago.

Synopsis - For the most part, I like the area. It's much less gritty than Philly, and seems to be friendlier (outright). Also, many areas of town are very pretty. The running community seems fairly active, too. I researched with RBF and Google, and found a lot of running hits. There are a couple of very active running group sites, with one real fun one - the Nerds. I've had a few of them contact me off-group, already - thanks for that! I feel welcome here.

I also checked out and researched the music scene. Live Classical and Jazz are represented here more than I thought they would be.

Conclusion - I like my new town!

Recovery Run

I ran a 8:54 min/mile pace this morning. 4 miles.

I saw a tree full of migrating birds.

Almost stepped in doggie doo-doo on the trail.

Had a nice cup of Komodo Dragon coffee at Starbucks. Black, of course.

Flirted slightly with a real cutie in the coffee line. He asked me if I had been running. I told him yes. He said that he had always wanted to take-up running, but never got around to it. Too bad. I crossed him off of my mental cutie list right away.

I guess I'm prejudiced that way - I like guys who are runners - I've got standards, you know!

Today's Run

This morning, I started my run from the parking lot of the Streamway trail in west Shawnee.

Lotsa bikes. Lotsa dog-walkers. (No cat-walkers, though)!!!

Fairly flat run. Very smooth pavement. Ran for 1 hr north, turned around, ran back.

Garminello says I ran 12 miles! I think I can believe the little lying robot, this time. Not too many trees in the way.

I might just do a marathon some day. You never know what the future holds.

Running = My Sanity

I started a blog to chart my runs and running progress. My running seems to be the only thing that keeps me sane. Me. Sane. I. Love. Running.

I'm new to the area, and need to figure out where to run. I need to find others that share my passion. I need to find some other beautiful running souls to enjoy my Running Jones.

Not sure who might read this. Kinda scary.

That's enough for now.
